Rethinking the classic kitchen towel check pattern. There is a sense of comfort, order and structure in these textiles. A collective pattern memory which so many people can connect and associate to, with many, endless variations within a common theme.
These variations were explored by making digital sketches of check patterns, both for regular twill and double sided dräll. Repetitions of familiar patterns lead me to my own kitchen towel pattern. The result has a focus on the simple and well-known but with double-sidedness through dräll and an optical effect adding a new element of interest.
